Your work will focus on these areas:
Shadow and observe local dentists and experience their daily routine
The main focus of your internship is to observe dentists as they work in the dental department of a private community hospital. You will see procedures and minor surgeries such as dental restorations, root canal treatments, or tooth extractions. You can use this time to expand your practical knowledge, and get a first-hand look into the reality of being a dentist in a busy hospital.
Raise awareness of the importance of oral hygiene during outreach work
When possible, you will help at Projects Abroad medical outreaches. You will speak to children about the importance of oral hygiene, and show them how to brush their teeth through songs, games, or fun activities.

You will be asked to participate in a case study programme during your internship. You will observe how patients are diagnosed and treated in Nepal in comparison to your home country. You will also research how such ailments would be treated in different countries around the world. Your final task will be to give an informal presentation to other interns on your findings.

What are the aims of this internship?
The aim of this project is to give you the opportunity to expand your practical knowledge of dentistry. We also work to help disadvantaged people gain better access to basic dental care.
Almost 25% of Nepal’s population lives below the poverty line. With this statistic so high, access to basic healthcare for disadvantaged groups can be a challenge. We work with a private community hospital that aims to provide quality health services at an affordable price for the local community. In addition, we also run outreaches in underprivileged communities. At outreaches, the focus is on raising awareness about the importance of good oral hygiene.
Projects Abroad medical outreaches are free for people that attend.
To ensure that we continue working towards long-term, sustainable outcomes, we have committed to several goals in our Medical Management Plan:
- Encourage an understanding of medical practices and promote an exchange of medical knowledge
- Improve hygiene standards
- Promote awareness of non-communicable diseases
- Improve access to basic healthcare for disadvantaged groups
